Board foot & lumber cost calculator
Convert rectangular lumber dimensions into board feet, cubic metres and a cost based on your own price.
Board foot & lumber cost calculator
Enter measured or supplier-stated dimensions consistently. This is a rectangular volume estimate, not a timber grading or log-yield rule.

The method
1 board foot = 144 cubic inches. Board feet = total rectangular volume in cubic inches ÷ 144. Estimated cost = board feet × your price per board foot.
A board 1 inch thick, 12 inches wide and 12 inches long is one board foot. Three identical boards are three board feet; at 6 per board foot, the estimate is 18 in your chosen currency.
How it works
- Enter consistent thickness, width and length measurements.
- Set the quantity of identical boards.
- Optionally enter your supplier's price per board foot and a currency label.
Good questions
Should I enter nominal or actual dimensions?+
Use the dimensions your supplier uses for pricing. Nominal and dressed dimensions can differ. The calculator does not apply an automatic allowance.
Does the price include tax or delivery?+
No. It multiplies calculated board feet by the unit price you enter, without tax, delivery or currency conversion.
Can this estimate logs?+
No. A rectangular volume formula is not a log scaling or sawmill recovery estimate.
